Gateway to Cinema
A first step towards a professional film career, the FX2 is one of Cinema Line's Full Frame cameras. Cinema Line carries on the visual philosophy of Sony's top-of-the-range VENICE series. With a high degree of portability, manageability, expandability and reliability, it is ideal for stand-alone shooting and features advanced photo functions designed to support filmmaking.
For a professional film look
The FX2 is a Cinema Line camera that lets you enter the world of professional filmmaking. It combines the superb image quality of a Full Frame sensor with the cinematic, expressive capabilities of Sony's high-end VENICE cinema cameras to bring your creative vision to life.
Movie-like viewing with the Full Frame sensor
The Full Frame FX2 delivers stunning film-like images, combining high resolution with beautiful bokeh. Powered by our BIONZ XR™ image processing processor and back-illuminated Exmor R™ CMOS sensor, backed by our advanced AI processing unit, the camera offers high sensitivity, wide angle of view and 33 MP resolution, giving ambitious filmmakers everything they need.
Outstanding image quality for maximum editing flexibility
The FX2's Full Frame sensor captures smooth shots with natural transitions in over 15 positions of adjustable range when shooting with the S-Log3 gamma curve, capturing even high-contrast scenes in full detail. For shooting with the S-Log3 gamma curve, the base ISO can be set to 800 or 4000 and the camera supports S-Gamut3/S-Gamut3.Cine colour gamut for wide compatibility. All these combine for maximum editing efficiency when shooting with multiple cameras.
Log shooting modes for flexible creation
For creative freedom, there are three modes for Log shooting - Flexible ISO, Cine EI and Cine EI Quick. Cine EI is widely used in professional filmmaking for shots for which post-production is planned. Depending on the shooting environment, you can select a default ISO of 800 or 4000 to maintain the maximum possible latitude during shooting, allowing you to enhance certain tonal ranges in post-production to achieve the desired filmic look.

Multiple shooting formats for versatile shooting and editing
7K oversampling with full pixel extraction and no pixel drop can be used for Full Frame 4K (QFHD 3840 x 2160) shooting, and 4K 60p (59.94p) content can be captured in Super 35mm mode. The 10-bit depth, 4:2:2 colour sampling, powerful MPEG-H HEVC/H.265 codec and Intra recording including DCI-4K (4096 x 2160) ensure outstanding quality.
Import up to 16 user LUTs
With FX2, LUTs can be imported and applied to the LCD monitor and electronic viewfinder while recording or playing back movies. Up to 16 user LUT files can be imported from a memory card or Sony Creators' Cloud and selected as required. The LUT used for recording can then be embedded in the video metadata for use in post-production.
Create moods directly in-camera
With Picture Profile presets, you can easily adjust colours and gradation to create different moods directly in-camera. These include the invaluable S-Cinetone™, which creates beautiful skin tones. Imported user LUTs can be registered and applied during shooting as PPLUT 1-4, and an increased number of 12 Creative Appearance Profiles (including FL2 and FL3) allow you to create a wide range of visual moods to suit your shooting needs.
Desqueeze display for anamorphic lenses
Anamorphic lenses are popular for creating a specifically cinematic look. The FX2 features a desqueeze display mode that allows you to control the 2.93:1 standard CinemaScope aspect ratio when shooting with anamorphic lenses. It offers 1.3x and 2.0x desqueeze settings, and Sony's Monitor & Control application provides even more detailed settings for control on a tablet or other external display device.
Freedom in frame rate
The FPS menu inherits the features of Cinema Line's higher-end models, including a [Variable] setting that allows intuitive control of frame rate: up to 2.5x slow motion at 4K resolution, or up to 5x slow motion at Full HD resolution, at up to 120 fps.
A wide range of expressive E-mount lenses
Sony offers over 70 high-performance E-mount lenses, including ultra-wide-angle super telephoto zoom lenses, as well as excellent prime and high-performance zoom lenses. Use with genuine Sony microphones for outstanding sound quality and choose from a range of other accessories to bring your creative imagination to life.
Designed for one-person shooting
Combining some of the video shooting features of current Cinema Line cameras with enhanced still image features to support filmmaking, the FX2 is designed to be able to shoot one-person in a wide range of conditions, giving you maximum flexibility.
Compact and lightweight, with built-in accessory attachment points
The compact flat-top design of the FX2, identical to the Cinema Line FX3 and FX30, makes it ideal for handheld shooting, gimbal and drone mounting. The magnesium alloy exterior has three 1/4-20 (UNC) screw holes for attaching accessories, and the bottom panel has two additional screw holes for securely mounting the tripod.
AI-based AF with real-time recognition
Equipped with a powerful artificial intelligence processing unit, the FX2 can recognise people, animals, birds, vehicles and even insects in real time with autofocus. The detected subject is indicated by a recognition frame and tracking can be triggered simply by touching the subject on the monitor screen. Advanced human pose estimation technology accurately detects subject movement, and the recognition efficiency of the human eye has been improved by up to 30% compared to the FX3/FX30.
Fine-tuned focus control
AF-assist allows smooth switching to manual focus setting for a smooth focus transition, while 7 autofocus transition speed settings and 5 sensitivity settings provide detailed control. Focus Map makes it easier to display depth of field by displaying focus information on the preview display, and the Angle of View compensation function can significantly improve image stability.
Automatic framing with advanced artificial intelligence
The FX2's automatic framing feature automatically crops and tracks the subject to keep it in a prominent position even when the camera is mounted on a tripod, so shots look like they were taken by an experienced cameraman. The Frame Stabilizer feature automatically keeps the subject in the same position within the frame, which can be useful when, for example, the camera operator is moving around the subject.
Stabilisation for dynamic handheld shooting
Active mode enhances stabilisation when shooting while walking. And if you want to shoot at an even faster pace, Dynamic Active mode uses electronic stabilisation with up to 30% more efficiency, so you can capture stable shots even when you're running. The right stabilisation metadata is embedded in your shots for efficient post-processing.
Photos at the touch of a button
With a single switch, you can select VIDEO or STILL mode and instantly bring up the appropriate settings. In addition to 33 MP resolution and continuous continuous burst shooting at up to 10 fps, the camera also features a [Still from Video Bookmark] function that allows you to take photos while shooting or play back videos with previously imported user LUTs.

Visual persistence in stills and video
Log mode is also available for stills, so photos in JPEG and HEIF formats can be shot with the S-Log3 gamma curve used in video capture, making it easy to apply the same process in post-production. You can also transform your photos in editing applications such as Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve, so you can use them in a variety of ways without changing their appearance.
Handling for professional filmmaking
The FX2 is designed to provide maximum handling for professional use, supporting a smooth workflow from start to finish.
Tiltable, high-resolution electronic viewfinder
Thanks to an OLED viewfinder with around 3.68 million pixels, you can concentrate on shooting even in bright or distracting environments. The magnification is 0.70x (50mm lens, infinite focus, -1m-1 diopter), and the viewing angle and viewpoint are optimised for video recording. The viewfinder itself can be rotated between 0° and +90°, making viewing at almost any angle easy, and the eyecup can be removed or rotated from left to right as required.
Frequently used parameters in a single place
The FX2 also features the BIG6 (Home) screen used in high-end CineAlta cameras such as VENICE, which allows easy control of six basic parameters in VIDEO mode. These are FPS (frame rate), ISO, shutter (speed/angle), aperture or ND filter, look and white balance. The well-established BIG6 (Home) screen contributes to smooth, intuitive operation and provides quick access to variable/locked parameters.
Efficient thermoregulation
Enjoy uninterrupted video recording time up to 4K 59.94p. Heat build-up is prevented by a combination of an internal cooling fan, the high thermal conductivity graphite material used in the image stabilizer and an innovative design that allows sufficient air to flow in even when the LCD monitor is closed. The cooling fan has three modes that can be selected according to the recording conditions: automatic, minimum and off during recording.
Ample power for long-lasting shooting
The high-capacity NP-FZ100 battery and efficient power management allow up to 100 minutes of actual video recording time or up to 155 minutes of continuous shooting. For longer recording times, continuous power can be supplied from an AC adapter or a mobile battery with USB Power Delivery (PD) support. The optional DC-C1 DC power connector provides stable power without taking up power from the camera's USB Type-C® connector.
Digital sound quality without degradation
When connected to the XLR-H1 XLR handheld unit, the FX2 can record high quality sound through two XLR connectors and a digital audio interface, without the need for additional batteries or cables. Microphones with XLR connectors are available separately. Four-channel audio, 24-bit recording and other settings are easily adaptable.
Easy live streaming
The FX2 is also a great choice for live streaming to your computer via USB (UVC/UAC), wireless or wired LAN. You can stream up to 4K (3840 x 2160) 59.94p resolution video over LAN while simultaneously recording to the camera's memory card. LAN streaming protocols include RTMP, RTMPS and SRT.
Support for CFexpress Type A memory cards
Two card slots support SDXC/SDHC UHS-II/UHS-I memory cards and one supports CFexpress Type A cards, providing a range of options for stable and reliable high bit-rate recording. Choose the recording mode that suits your needs: video and still images can be recorded on different cards, and recording can be automatically switched to a second card when the first is full, and so on.
4:2:2 10-bit or 16-bit RAW output via HDMI
HDMI Type-A connector allows 4K 60p (59.94p) 4:2:2 10-bit or 16-bit RAW video output to be transferred to an external recorder for flexible post-production. The 16-bit RAW video output will have a resolution of 4672 x 2628 (at 16:9 aspect ratio), including DCI-4K (4096 x 2160) resolution with optional frame rates of [59.94p]/[29.97p]/[23.98p]/[24.00p]. Video output via HDMI can be done simultaneously with proxy recording to the internal memory card.
Monitor & Control
Sony's Monitor & Control app not only enables intuitive remote control and image monitoring on a smartphone or tablet screen, but also provides waveform and other cues to confirm exposure and focus accurately. Multi-monitor control is achieved when multiple cameras are wirelessly connected to a single iPad. This can contribute to smoother workflows with minimal human resources.
Catalyst Browse, Catalyst Prepare/Plugin
The Catalyst Browse and Catalyst Prepare applications allow convenient editing of Log-mode videos with embedded LUTs. Record marks and OK/NG/KEEP marks added during recording can also be imported for easy selection of recordings. Image stabilisation, angle of view compensation, rolling shutter and other metadata embedded during recording can be used for precise post-production corrections.
Creators' Cloud platform
Creators' Cloud supports creative work from shooting to post-production by combining Sony's advanced camera technology with the cloud. It also provides a space for discovery and collaboration with other creators around the world. Explore web, mobile and PC-based apps for efficient shooting and post-production.
Upload to the cloud (directly from the camera)
Recorded files can be uploaded directly from the camera to your Creators' Cloud storage, without the need to transfer them via smartphone or other device. Once the data has been transferred to Creators' Cloud, it can also be transferred to other cloud services such as Google Drive™ or Adobe Lightroom, depending on your workflow.
