An F2.8 Telephoto Zoom You Can Actually Take with You

The Sigma 50-120mm F2.8 DC OS | Contemporary covers one of the most useful telephoto ranges for APS-C systems while remaining considerably smaller and lighter than a traditional fast telephoto zoom. Its constant F2.8 aperture, optical image stabilisation and fast HLA autofocus make it a versatile choice for portraits, events, sports and video.

From Portraits to Sports

On an APS-C camera, the 50–120mm range covers the classic short-telephoto to telephoto field of view, allowing you to switch from looser portrait compositions to tighter framing of more distant subjects without changing lenses.

It is particularly well suited to:

Constant F2.8 Throughout the Zoom Range

The constant F2.8 maximum aperture remains available from 50mm all the way to 120mm.

This is particularly useful:

in low light
at indoor events
when using faster shutter speeds
for stronger subject separation in portraits
for video, where consistent exposure while zooming is important

Combined with the longer focal lengths, the F2.8 aperture also enables strong background compression and smooth bokeh.

More Stable Handheld Shooting

Sigma’s OS2 optical stabilisation system provides up to 6.5 stops of stabilisation at 50mm and up to 4.5 stops at 120mm according to CIPA testing.

This is especially useful:

in lower light
at the telephoto end
when using slower shutter speeds
for handheld video
on APS-C camera bodies without in-body stabilisation

Fast HLA Autofocus

The High-response Linear Actuator (HLA) provides fast and quiet autofocus, making the lens suitable not only for static portraits but also for tracking fast-moving subjects.

Optimised for Video

The optical design reduces focus breathing, so the framing changes less during focus transitions.

This can provide more natural focus shifts for:

interviews
event videos
documentary work
gimbal shots
cinematic focus transitions

Only 99mm Long

The Sony E version measures just 99mm in length and weighs 390g, which is particularly compact for a stabilised telephoto zoom with a constant F2.8 aperture.

Its small size is especially useful:

when travelling
during all-day events
when building a lightweight APS-C kit
on a gimbal
whenever mobility is a priority

Part of a Complete F2.8 APS-C Zoom System

The Sigma 50-120mm F2.8 complements the 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary and 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary.

Together, the three lenses cover everything from ultra-wide to telephoto focal lengths with a constant F2.8 maximum aperture, while their combined weight remains under 1kg according to Sigma.

Recommended for

The Sigma 50-120mm F2.8 DC OS | Contemporary is particularly well suited to photographers and filmmakers looking for a compact, fast and stabilised telephoto zoom for APS-C cameras.

It offers a versatile solution for portraits, weddings, events, sports, travel and hybrid photo-video content creation.

Sigma 50-120mm f/2.8 DC OS (C)

Capture subjects near and far with the extremely portable 50-120mm f/2.8 DC OS Contemporary Lens from Sigma. This versatile, travel-friendly telephoto zoom for APS-C cameras bundles high-speed autofocus, powerful optical stabilization, and distortion-controlling glass elements into a compact lens that measures only 9.9 cm long and weighs under 400 grams.

Responsive Autofocus

Easily focus on everything from static landscapes to playing children thanks to the powerful autofocus. A High-Response Linear Actuator autofocus system quickly and accurately shifts focus for accurate tracking of fast-moving subjects and rapid switching to a new subject. Thanks to the suppression of focus breathing, the lens is also suitable for professional video creation.

Reliable Optical Stabilization

This lens features a powerful optical image stabilization system that compensates for 6.5 stops of camera shake at the wide end and 4.5 stops at the telephoto end. Powered by Sigma's OS2 algorithm, the stabilization system makes the lens more suitable for on-the-go handheld use, even when shooting in low light and at the long end of the zoom range.

Crystal-Clear Optics

Thanks to one FLD, three SLD, and four aspherical elements, the lens produces sharp final images with accurate colors and minimal distortion for a pleasant shooting experience throughout the entire zoom range, even wide open at f/2.8. A rounded 11-blade diaphragm produces beautiful bokeh with smooth focus falloff that wonderfully highlights the in-focus areas.

Ready for Anywhere

Continue using the lens in inclement weather conditions thanks to the dust- and splash-resistant construction, allowing you to continue photographing with comfort even as clouds roll in. Additionally, the front element features a water- and oil-repellent coating that makes it especially easy to clean.
